Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis
I am a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach aims to address emotional and psychological distress through the exploration of unconscious forces that are outside of our awareness and influence how we perceive ourselves and others, and how we relate to the world at large. In many cases it involves looking at early life experiences and the meaning we make of them. This kind of psychological work is fostered by the development of a relationship between the patient and the therapist grounded in empathy, trust and non-judgement.
I work with adults who are struggling with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, anger and stress, as well as those experiencing challenges professionally, creatively or in their relationships with others and themselves.
Unlike short-term or symptom-focused approaches, psychoanalytic work is not aimed at offering a quick fix. Instead, it creates the conditions for deeper and more lasting change by exploring underlying conflicts, patterns, and meanings. This process requires time, consistency, and a willingness to engage with difficult feelings and experiences. The commitment involved reflects the seriousness of the work; it is not about managing symptoms alone, but about fostering a more profound transformation in how one understands and lives one’s life. When clinically appropriate, psychiatric knowledge and medication may also be incorporated into treatment.
About Me:
I have experience working in a variety of settings, including community clinics, partial hospitalization programs and inpatient psychiatric hospitals. I have been in private practice since 2017.
